Studying Medicine Abroad : MBBS in Other Countries

If you are planning to study medicine, you must have already done your homework about the course you must study and the entrances you must give to get in any medical college in India. Many of your friends and relatives must have told you about studying medicine abroad. Are you confused? Whether you should study in India or abroad? If abroad, where all can you apply? How will you meet the financial requirements?! Well! Let me help you out with all that.

Step 1: Choosing the location of study

When it comes to studying abroad, it should be clear as to which country and college you are planning to study in. There are many colleges in nearby and faraway countries which offer medical degree. This includes US, UK, Germany, China, Russia, Australia, Georgia, Ukraine, Japan, Nepal and many more. But many factors should be carefully studied and considered before zeroing in on one country.

Step 2: Do your research

Do your research about the medical education in different countries, the quality of colleges offering the course and also the law and order and rules and regulations of the country as well as the university. Also consider the finances of the course and economic state of the country. After considering all these factors, make a list of the countries which are feasible for you to study in.

Step 3: Finances

Collect all information in detail about the course fees for studying MBBS in that particular country you plan to go. It is a trend among people to blindly choose to go to first world countries which are popular brand names like US, UK, Australia etc. for medical studies. These countries are in general very expensive and by the end of your undergraduate medical studies you might end up in a financial breakdown and you will be left with no money for future studies like MD and DM. Always remember that these days, MBBS doctors are of no value. Patients usually do a background check on the doctor’s qualifications before consulting one and prefer highly qualified doctor over one with only an MBBS degree. So consider your finances and always consider saving money for future. There are many good colleges offering first quality MBBS degree in countries like Russia, China etc. The number of medical aspirants migrating to these countries for education has shown an exponential increased in recent times.

Step 4: Catch hold of that senior!!!!

You may be totally pissed off at that school senior for insulting you in the name of ragging! But you find out one fine day that he is a student of the college you plan to study in! Don’t you hesitate! Go and get talking! Surveying is very important when it comes to studying abroad. Talk to people who have been or are associated with the university or the country where you want to go. Try to get as much negative and positive information as possible.

Step 5:Get a valid passport and VISA

A valid passport and VISA is necessary for you to travel abroad and study. All the formalities regarding this should be completed well before the application to colleges are forwarded. Some countries like Nepal also offer high quality medical degree and traveling to Nepal does not require a passport or VISA!
You can apply for passport online using: http://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/welcomeLink

Step 6: Take those examinations

If you are planning to study abroad you may have to take particular examinations like TOEFL, IELTS, GRE etc. which tests your aptitude and language abilities. A good score in these examinations are mandatory to secure your admission in colleges abroad. If you are planning to study in European countries, Canada etc. the only exam you are required to take is TOEFL while for studying in countries like Germany, GRE is a must. The score in these examinations will decide whether you go to a top college or not.
