Home country should also be preferred but unfortunately, there are very few MBBS seats in India and getting a seat in India is very competitive.
In 2017 alone, there were nearly 11.20 lac medical aspirants for approx. 54,000 MBBS seats (both Government & Private Medical Colleges).
Private Medical Colleges are charging very high fees which is not affordable by everyone.
Also, quality of education in majority of private colleges is questions. In 2017 MCI has debarred 69 medical colleges from giving admissions.
Under this situation, studying MBBS abroad is a better option.
Under this situation MBBS from abroad from a Medical Council of India approved Medical College is a better option.
You should consider the following
1. Long Term Goal – if it is USA etc. then countries offering American Curriculum should be preferred.
Please note the American Curriculum is more challenging – difference is similar to CBSE & ICSE board – the latter being more tough.
2. Your annual / total budget for studies.
3. Government Vs. Private Universities: Government Universities should be preferred as they have qualified faculty and excellent infrastructure and goo d patient inflow in their affiliated hospitals.
4. Recognition of the University: University should be approved by Medical Council of India so that after graduation you are eligible to clear the MCI Screening Test and work as a Doctor in India.
5. Medium of Instruction: Medium of Instruction at the selected University should be preferably in English. Some Universities teach in bi-lingual method which should be avoided.
6. MCI Coaching Classes: Many Universities also conduct on campus MCI coaching classes. This helps an Indian student to clear MCI Screening Test easily. Preference should be given to search Universities.
7. Comforts during study period – some countries do not have Indian Mess – students have to do self-cooking .
Philippines, Kyrgyzstan & Ukraine offer excellent facilities – Indian Vegetarian food is available.
You should consider the above points. There are disadvantages but advantages are more as India has a shortage of MBBS Doctors and if you do MBBS from abroad then you are eligible to work as a Doctor in India after clearing MCI Screening Test.
